 What is MEG?

Our brain is a complex network of neurons – nerve cells. Information is transmitted through the brain by the neurons via electrical currents. A magnetic field surrounds these electrical currents.
MEG (magnetoencephalography) is an imaging technique used to measure these magnetic fields created by brain activity.

 Who is MEG for?  

MEG is used for both clinical and research purposes.

Clinical uses include localization of epileptic foci, mapping the brain's important functions, such as sensory, motor, auditory, visual and language areas. MEG is a clinically used tool for pre-surgical evaluation. It may be especially useful in the analysis of damaged brain areas (such as brain areas located near tumors or AVMs).

MEG is an extensive research tool. Different areas of interest such as geriatric diseases, nervous system illnesses, psychiatric research and language exploration – all take place in the MEG lab.

 What is "inter-ictal brain activity"? 
 The epileptic brain has unwanted electrical activity. This activity may sometimes cause seizures. At other times the electrical activity evaporates and has no clinical performance.
Inter ictal data is the data recorded showing the activity that did not cause a seizure. Brain waves of such an activity could be of a typical epileptic form of waves.
 What ages is MEG suitable for?
 The exam is suitable for any age.
Both babies and elderly people have been tested in the MEG system.
